Welcome to the Wilmington Middle School Counseling Website! Mrs. Dee, Mrs. Laroche, and Mrs. Norton are the adjustment counselors for WMS. We have the joy of working with all students through individual counseling, small group counseling, and collaboration with teachers, staff and families. The counselors at the middle school are grade level based and stay with the same group during their 3 years at WMS--for example, a grade 6 student will have the same counselor for grades 6, 7, and 8.

Ms. Keeley and Mrs. Lightfoot-Taylor are the district school social workers, working alongside the three adjustment counselors. They also provides individual and small group counseling to students in grades 6-8,  and, along with the adjustment counselors, helps manage crisis situations, while collaborating with teachers, staff, and caretakers to ensure students feel safe and supported while in school.

The middle school years are filled with opportunities for tremendous growth academically, socially, and personally. We are committed to working with students, parents, and school staff, whether in person or remotely, in order to foster that growth on behalf of each and every student at WMS. We know that this a year unlike any other, but we are here to support you all!

                                                                                                                                         Small Group Counseling:

A variety of small groups are offered to students in grades 6-8 who may benefit from extra time developing academic, social, or emotional skills along with their peers, and students who are coping with similar life situations.

                                                                                                                                           Individual Counseling

Some students benefit from meeting 1:1 with an assigned counselor to talk about personal goals, or situations related to friends, family/caretakers, academics, emotional needs, etc.

Setting Up a Meeting:

In School:

-Let your teacher know you want to see the counselor and they will write a pass for you

-If the counselor is meeting with someone, slip a note under their door letting them know you want to meet

-If you have an assigned appointment, you counselor will write you a pass to remind you the date/time of your meeting
